Non-Municipal Locations

Be aware that for non-municipal locations in very few circumstances some telephone numbers might have a municipal address. (i.e., On a drilling rig, an exploration camp, a tourist lodge in the bush, etc.). Without a proper municipal address, Northern911 cannot provide 911 call routing. Therefore, you will need to provide a work around to call a third party for information in case of an emergency.

Municipal Addresses

Northern911 are using the Postal / Zip Code system (Canada Post and USPS) to validate the city for a physical address, this can create a challenge when attempting to upload a physical address for a rural location. In some cases, the client’s Postal Code is associated to a neighboring City whereas their physical address is in a rural location. This may be a very large area and at times in an unorganized township. In these cases, we must work together to ensure that a valid address is uploaded into our database.

Our goal is to ensure that we transfer all emergency calls to the correct agency and provide them with the necessary information to find the caller’s location. In order to do so for rural locations, you must input details into the Additional/Other Address Information field which accepts 250 characters.

Example of directions & additional information:

Located in XXX Township. Nearest City: XXX. Travel east on Hwy 11, turn Left on Cedar Rd. Travel 2.5 km and turn Right on dirt road. Travel 2 km. Location on right: cottage with red roof.

In very few circumstances some carriers may end up with telephone numbers that do not have a municipal address. (i.e.) On a drilling rig, an exploration camp, a tourist lodge in the bush etc.)

The VoIP telephone provider must provide the proper dispatch info.

Without a proper municipal address, Northern911 cannot provide 911 call routing. Note that GPS co-ordinates cannot be used for dispatching and are therefore not acceptable.

Some clients have created a work around to call a third party for information.

In the case of an exploration company we are instructed to call a security guard at their main location and they then send helicopters and/or dispatch the Police/Fire/Ambulance themselves and are able to give specific directions.

In order to load an address record for non-municipal locations, the name of the responsible Primary PSAP will need to be determined. Please complete the non-municipal form in uControl so that we may assist you and follow up through a ticket.
